South Africa's seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has decided to come out of one-day international retirement and join the national white-ball squads for their forthcoming tour of Pakistan. However, Test captain Temba Bavuma will be absent from the Test series due to a calf strain.

The Proteas are set to defend their ICC World Test Championship Mace in a two-match series in Pakistan beginning October 12. De Kock, who had previously turned away from ODI cricket post-2023 World Cup, is back under the guidance of current head coach Shukri Conrad.

De Kock's return elevates the team's prospects with his experience being a crucial factor. Meanwhile, Bavuma's injury means that Aiden Markram will take over the captaincy role for the Tests. Bavuma's consistent injury issues concern the team, although his form remains commendable.
