The Bengaluru Torpedoes are set to kick off their Season 4 campaign in the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) this Friday against the debutant team Goa Guardians at the G.M.C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium. With high hopes, the team features USA's dynamic Universal player Jalen Penrose, who brings confidence in their preparations. Fresh off his 2023 NORCECA Pan Am Final Six gold victory, Penrose is a key player alongside team skipper Matt West and Olympic champion coach David Lee, according to a PVL release.
Penrose praised the team's camaraderie, mentioning the unique chemistry developed among the diverse group. "The team's amazing. It's always difficult when you bring together players from different places, but this group is enjoyable," said Penrose. He emphasized the mix of humor and openness to learning within the squad as crucial to their growth. Comfortable with playing alongside familiar face Matt West and under the expertise of David Lee, Penrose noted the significance of learning and sharing experiences.
Looking forward, the focus for the Torpedoes remains on effort over results, highlighted by Penrose. "Everybody wants to win, that's for sure. But the most important thing is that we give our best every time we step on the court," he stated. The lineup also includes talented Indian players like attackers Sethu TR, Joel Benjamin J, blocker Mujeeb MC, and experienced libero Midhunkumar Balasubramaniyan. Drawn in Pool A, the Torpedoes will face teams like Chennai Blitz and Kolkata Thunderbolts, concluding the league stage against Mumbai Meteors on October 22. The top four from each pool will advance to the semifinals.
