The session began turbulently as George Russell crashed his Mercedes into a trackside wall, causing a significant disruption. Nonetheless, Piastri capitalized on his opportunity to record the day's top time.
Max Verstappen, currently vying for his fifth consecutive world title despite being 69 points behind Piastri, secured the third fastest time, with Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar landing second. Meanwhile, the FIA's 'heat hazard' regulation was invoked for the upcoming race, though the practice occurred under unexpectedly mild conditions.
