The stage is set in Margao, Goa, as the SAFF Women's Championship kicks off, starting May 25th and running until June 6th. India's women's football team finds itself in Group B, alongside regional rivals Bangladesh and the Maldives.

This is the second time the tournament is being hosted in India, following its first hosting in Siliguri, West Bengal, back in 2016 when India clinched their fourth title. Goa is no stranger to SAFF tournaments, having hosted the men's championship in 1999, which saw India emerge victorious.

India, with a record of five SAFF Women's Championship titles, faces stiff competition this year. Bangladesh, who have taken the last two titles in 2022 and 2024, remain a formidable opponent. The draw for 2026 was seeded based on the latest FIFA Women's World Rankings: India at 69th, Nepal at 87th, Bangladesh at 112th, Sri Lanka at 162nd, Bhutan at 164th, and Maldives at 167th.
