West Bromwich Albion has found itself in a precarious position after being penalized with a two-point deduction for breaching the Football League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. As a result of this penalty, the club is now ranked 20th in the Championship, dangerously close to the relegation zone with two games left in the season.
An independent Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) concluded that West Brom's financial losses exceeded the Upper Loss Threshold of 39 million pounds over a three-year period, leading to this sanction. West Brom, refuting the allegations, is reportedly considering an appeal within 14 days upon receiving the full reasons.
Despite a promising nine-match unbeaten run that seemingly secured their position, their recent 3-0 victory over Watford has now been overshadowed by the points deduction. West Brom is set to host second-placed Ipswich Town on Saturday, followed by a critical season finale against Sheffield Wednesday.
