Lorenzo Musetti, ranked 10th in the world of tennis, has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming French Open due to a thigh injury. The young athlete sustained the injury during the Italian Open, which culminated in a 6-3, 6-1 defeat against Casper Ruud.
After seeking medical advice, the tennis star revealed that tests showed a rectus femoris injury, necessitating several weeks of rest and recovery. Consequently, Musetti will also miss the competition in Hamburg, an unexpected blow to his season.
The injury is a significant disappointment for the 21-year-old Italian, who had made it to the semifinals at Roland Garros last year, and marked a crucial victory over Carlos Alcaraz in Hamburg to win his first tour-level championship in 2022.
