Third seed Coco Gauff staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-3, propelling her into her second straight Italian Open final. This marks her second WTA 1000 final appearance this year, following a runner-up finish in Miami in March.
Despite falling behind as Cirstea took a 4-2 lead, Gauff, ranked world number four, shifted gears and dominated by winning four consecutive games to clinch the first set. Her focus remained unshaken, even after a pause to assist a spectator requiring medical attention.
Twice securing breaks that Cirstea answered each time, Gauff's decisive break in the eighth game led her to victory. The match, concluded in a little over an hour, ended a challenging run for Gauff, who overcame three consecutive three-set matches to advance past the semi-finals.
