MS Dhoni's Return to CSK: A High-Stakes Gamble?
Ahead of CSK's crucial match against SRH, Sunil Gavaskar considers including MS Dhoni, who missed the season due to injury, a risky move. Dhoni hasn't played competitive cricket for a year, and Gavaskar suggests relying on match-fit players to improve CSK's playoff chances.
As the Chennai Super Kings prepare for a decisive match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, attention turns to the potential return of their iconic leader, MS Dhoni. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has characterized the decision to include Dhoni as a high-stakes gamble. Having missed the entire season with a calf strain, Dhoni has not appeared in any competitive matches for over a year, raising concerns about his match fitness.
On Star Sports' 'Cricket Live', Gavaskar expressed his opinion, emphasizing the importance of fielding players who are currently match-fit and have consistently played in recent weeks. As a dedicated team player, Dhoni is unlikely to risk disturbing a winning combination that has helped CSK clinch successful outcomes this season.
Highlighting the significance of the upcoming match against SRH, especially since it's CSK's last home game at Chepauk, Gavaskar remarked, "I would be very surprised if Dhoni plays. It's a must-win game for CSK, with their playoff prospects on the line. Introducing a player out of practice for over a year would indeed be a gamble." Meanwhile, Dhoni recently participated in a 30-40 minute training session, giving fans a glimmer of hope for his on-field comeback.
