Aditi Chauhan, a former football player, and MM Somaiya, an Olympic gold medalist ex-hockey captain, will oversee the wrestling trials for Vinesh Phogat at the Asian Games. Appointed by the Indian Olympic Association and Sports Ministry, they aim to ensure fair proceedings.
Chauhan represents the IOA, while Somaiya acts on behalf of the Sports Ministry and the Sports Authority of India. The trials will be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Phogat resumed participation following a Supreme Court decision, confirming a Delhi High Court ruling despite previous objections from the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The legal verdict arose from challenges Phogat faced over disciplinary and procedural accusations by the WFI, including skipping a doping test last year. Phogat's disputes with the WFI have been ongoing since leading protests in 2023 against allegations of misconduct by the federation's previous head.
