Lens defender Saud Abdulhamid will lead Saudi Arabia's FIFA World Cup team as coach Georgios Donis announces a 26-man squad. The tournament will feature veteran forward Salem Al Dawsari and goalkeeper Mohamed Al Owais. Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen its squad for upcoming games against Uruguay, Spain, and Cape Verde.
Saudi Arabia's World Cup aspirations received a boost as Lens defender Saud Abdulhamid was named to spearhead the national team under the guidance of coach Georgios Donis. The squad, which is heading to the U.S., Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, is set to make a strong impression with Abdulhamid, who won the French Cup this year and is the sole foreign-based player.
Veteran forward Salem Al Dawsari, the 2025 AFC player of the year, is gearing up for his third World Cup, having played in the editions of 2018 and 2022. In addition, 34-year-old goalkeeper Mohamed Al Owais' experience will be pivotal, along with seasoned Al Hilal defender Hassan Tambakti and midfielder Mohamed Kanno.
The team faces stiff competition in Group H, starting with Uruguay, followed by Spain and Cape Verde. Despite a setback in a recent friendly against Ecuador, Saudi Arabia remains optimistic about improving its performance in the upcoming warm-ups against Puerto Rico and Senegal.
