India is bolstering its space-based surveillance systems with a planned launch of 52 satellites over the next five years, a move announced by Pawan Kumar Goenka, Chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) at the Global Space Exploration Conference-2025.
The initiative aims to enhance the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, thereby improving real-time coordination during military operations. Goenka emphasized that half of the satellites will be developed by private sector companies, marking increased collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Additionally, Goenka announced the imminent transfer of technology for the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) to the private sector, designed to launch small satellites quickly, a capability crucial for defense strategies.
