Ericsson, the Swedish telecom equipment giant, announced on Thursday the establishment of a dedicated Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) development unit in Bengaluru. This initiative marks an expansion of the company's research and development capabilities within India, with plans to recruit over 150 additional personnel.

Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, stated that expanding ASIC R&D operations would enable the company to harness India's rich technological expertise, bolstering its semiconductor design prowess. This strategic move is also expected to reinforce the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

The new unit supports Ericsson's broader strategy of enhancing its product portfolio, focusing on the Ericsson Silicon platform, essential for crafting energy-efficient, high-performance mobile network products. Ericsson's existing R&D operations span across Bengaluru, Chennai, and Gurugram, covering various telecom domains, including advanced AI technologies.
