Romania has recovered fragments of drones following a Russian attack on Ukraine, according to the country's defense ministry. The attack marked the first instance of property damage in Romania, as drone debris was found in Galati city and Tulcea county, though no casualties were reported.
The Ministry condemned Russia's actions, stressing that they threaten regional security and violate international law. As tensions rise along NATO's eastern flank, counter-drone measures are set to be integrated into Romania's defense systems within days, bolstered by a cutting-edge system developed by Project Eagle.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenge posed by Russian drones in Europe's eastern regions, with other NATO states also facing similar airspace breaches. The new AI-powered Merops system aims to enhance security along the Danube river border with Ukraine.
