Meta Platforms Unveils AI Pendant to Boost Wearable Tech
Meta Platforms is planning to start testing a new AI pendant as part of its strategy to improve its hardware division. The company aims to expand its range of AI glasses and introduce 'Wearables for Work' to grow its market and recover from recent losses in its hardware unit.
Meta Platforms is set to venture into the wearable tech market with an AI pendant, reported The Information on Friday, citing an internal memo. The move aims to offset continued losses in the company's hardware division.
Despite being approached for comments, Meta remained silent on the developments. However, it's clear from the memo by Alex Himel, Meta's vice president of wearables, that the company plans to bolster its lineup of AI glasses and introduce 'Wearables for Work' to its business clientele.
This comes in the wake of a challenging quarter for Meta's hardware unit, Reality Labs, which posted a $4.03 billion loss. With ambitions to sell 10 million wearable devices by late 2026, Meta plans to roll out these products across more countries, leveraging partnerships with brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley.
