The Delhi transport department has taken a significant step towards a greener future by approving the establishment of extensive electric bus charging infrastructure at four depots located in Dwarka. This initiative aims to support the growing fleet of eco-friendly buses in the capital city.
The Rs 107 crore project is expected to be finished in 18 months, aligning with the government's strategy to gradually replace its existing fleet with electric buses, thereby enhancing sustainable urban mobility. The infrastructural development at Cluster Depot I, Cluster Depot II, ISBT, and DTC Depot, will be carried out by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, according to officials.
The government is also commissioning a study to identify best practices from other countries with efficient electric vehicle charging systems. Currently, Delhi's fleet includes around 7,000 buses, with 1,600 already electric. Meanwhile, approximately 25 lakh passengers rely on DTC buses, and 16 lakh on cluster buses, for daily commuting.
