Maharashtra Extends HSRP Deadline Amid Compliance Push

The Maharashtra government has once again extended the deadline for vehicles to install high-security registration plates (HSRP) to August 15, signaling stricter enforcement measures for non-compliance starting August 16.

This announcement marks the third instance the state transport commissioner has prolonged the deadline for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Initially set for March 31, the timeline was subsequently moved to April's end and then to the end of June, in reflection of widespread non-compliance. According to the transport department's data, only 23 lakh of the 2.10 crore eligible vehicles have fitted HSRPs within the past six months.

The department warns of enforcement actions from August 16, specifically targeting vehicles without HSRPs that haven't secured a valid booking appointment by August 15. Vehicle owners are urged to visit the department's online portal for scheduling their HSRP fittings. To facilitate this process, the transport department appointed three companies after a meticulous tendering process to cater to a vehicle population of more than 4 crore.
