The Railway Ministry released an official circular on Monday announcing fare hikes for non-AC and AC classes in mail and express trains, effective July 1. Non-AC fares will increase by 1 paisa per kilometre, while AC classes see a rise of 2 paise per kilometre.
This decision comes despite earlier hints by ministry officials on June 24 about the upcoming fare revisions. However, the detailed fare table indicating price changes for different classes and trains was only published on Monday.
In a move to protect daily commuters, the fares for suburban trains and monthly season tickets will remain unchanged. Additionally, only journeys over 500 kilometres in ordinary second class will face a 0.5 paisa per kilometre increment.
