In a significant stride towards sustainable infrastructure, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has joined hands with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) - Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to promote the use of steel slag technology in road construction. This initiative marks a transformative step by replacing traditional natural aggregates with processed steel slag aggregates, highlighting a new era of infrastructure development.

AM/NS India has achieved a landmark distinction by becoming the first company in India to obtain a license for steel slag valorisation from CSIR-CRRI. This licensing allows the company to utilize advanced technology to process steel slag aggregates at its plant in Hazira, Gujarat. The resultant product, marketed as 'AM/NS Aakar', adheres to stringent technical guidelines and has been proven more durable and cost-effective than conventional materials.

The collaboration has already seen the successful construction of India's first 'all steel slag road' in Hazira and sets the path for future developments. With ongoing expansions in steel plant capacities, the initiative aims to align with national objectives, contributing to a circular economy and supporting a projected market value surge, while aiding significant job creation by 2050.
