A former Marathi film producer, identified as Akshay Ashwin Kale, has been detained in Pune for allegedly defrauding a Delhi resident of over Rs 12.85 lakh via a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme, an official announced on Saturday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer's report, Kale presented himself as a financial advisor, deceiving victims into investing in what appeared to be legitimate cryptocurrency platforms. The victim, promised lucrative returns, deposited Rs 12.85 lakh but was unable to withdraw the investment afterward.
Investigations revealed Kale's conversion of profits through various accounts to remain undetected, highlighting his background in film production, which he abandoned after incurring losses. Kale exploited his credentials to deceive victims with promises of high crypto returns before disappearing. Authorities continue investigating the scheme, anticipating more possible victims.
