The Assam government has successfully recouped Rs 7.5 crore from Kaluwala Construction Private Limited, a Haryana-based company, over allegations of tax evasion. The company was involved in constructing a road from Dhemaji to Oyan in Arunachal Pradesh. An investigation by a 12-member team from Guwahati resulted in the recovery.
Authorities discovered multiple discrepancies in the company's GST profile, leading to an estimated tax evasion of around Rs 64 crore. The company failed to provide sufficient justification for these discrepancies, prompting the government to take immediate enforcement action.
While the recovery of Rs 7.5 crore is a significant step, officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to determine the complete scope of the tax evasion.
