In a pivotal moment for India's bullet train aspirations, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a breakthrough of a crucial five-kilometre tunnel in Thane, near Mumbai, over the weekend.
Standing at the tunnel's entrance, Minister Vaishnaw activated a well-controlled dynamite blast to remove the final obstruction, marking a significant milestone in the ambitious 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.
As attendees documented the event, Vaishnaw announced the completion of the first 50-kilometre phase between Surat and Billimora by December 2027 and commended the team's use of innovative techniques like the 'drill and blast' method for the accomplishment.
