Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a compelling case for self-reliance, arguing that India's primary challenge is its dependence on other nations. Speaking at the 'Samudra se Samruddhi' event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, Modi advocated for the country to produce everything from semiconductors to ships domestically.
During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects totaling Rs 34,200 crore. Modi emphasized that foreign dependence is a significant hurdle, highlighting the Rs 6 lakh crore annual expense paid to foreign firms for shipping services, equating it to the country's defense budget.
He criticized previous governments for stifling India's potential through restrictive policies, such as the licence raj, and announced initiatives to strengthen the maritime sector, positioning India's ports as pivotal in its journey to becoming a global maritime powerhouse.
