In a significant development for India's high-speed rail infrastructure, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw celebrated the completion of a five-kilometre tunnel section in Thane, near Mumbai, on Saturday.
The tunnel is a crucial component of the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The breakthrough was achieved via a controlled dynamite blast, marking the completion of five kilometres of excavation, with the first 50-kilometre stretch expected to be ready by December 2027.
Vaishnaw commended the progress, highlighting the challenges overcome by Afcons Infrastructure Limited, responsible for constructing the 21-kilometre tunnel section, a feat achieved despite the area's tough geological conditions.
