According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's domestic airlines flew 1.29 crore passengers in August 2025, a slight decrease from the 1.31 crore recorded in the same period last year.
While the passenger count climbed from July's 1.26 crore, market share dynamics have shifted. IndiGo's market share dipped to 64.2 percent from 65.2 percent in July, whereas the Air India Group saw a rise to 27.3 percent from 26.2 percent. Notably, Akasa Air and SpiceJet experienced either a decline or stagnation in their respective market shares.
Despite these fluctuations, the sector saw a 4.99 percent annual increase in passenger numbers from January to August, against a backdrop of various complaints and delays. IndiGo led in on-time performance at key metros, underscoring the competitive nature of India's aviation landscape.
