In a devastating turn of events, heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have prompted landslides and flash floods that have killed at least 22 individuals within the past 36 hours. According to officials, these catastrophic occurrences have wreaked havoc across several districts, including Ilam in the east, where 18 fatalities were reported due to separate landslides.

Natural disasters continue to disrupt the region, with three casualties linked to lightning strikes in southern Nepal and one flood-related death in Udayapur district. Additionally, 11 people remain missing, presumably swept away by the rushing waters, as rescue teams intensify their efforts to locate them.

Authorities are grappling with significant infrastructural damage, as landslides and floods have rendered several highways impassable, stranding hundreds of passengers. Although domestic flights face significant disruptions, international air travel proceeds unhindered. Meanwhile, critical water levels in the Koshi River have prompted the opening of all sluice gates at the Koshi Barrage to manage the deluge.
