As India's digital economy continues its rapid expansion, telecom networks are emerging as vital infrastructure underpinning essential sectors such as financial systems, governance platforms, and healthcare. On World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2026, stakeholders emphasized the need for secure and resilient networks to facilitate India's next digital growth phase.

SP Kochhar of the Cellular Operators Association of India highlighted how telecom networks have extended beyond basic communication to support sectors like digital governance and healthcare. He called for significant ecosystem participants, such as Large Traffic Generators, to contribute to network enhancement, citing the essential role of satellite communications in ensuring connectivity during disruptions.

Industry experts, including A K Bhatt from the Indian Space Association and Gautam Sharma of Viasat India, underscored the importance of satellite technology in complementing terrestrial infrastructure, proposing regulatory reforms for smoother operations. In addition, other industry leaders pointed to the integration of AI, cloud-native technologies, and secure platforms as crucial for building robust digital ecosystems.
