The Supreme Court's decision to lift a stay order has enabled Odisha's government to appoint vice-chancellors and faculty members across its universities, according to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
The judgment exposes flaws in the Odisha University (Amendment) Act of 2020, a measure introduced by the prior BJD government that conflicted with UGC regulations.
With around 1,300 vacant faculty positions, the focus now shifts to university autonomy and strengthening the higher education system under the new Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act, 2024.
