The Maharashtra cabinet has sanctioned a new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy focused on overhauling state-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into exceptional global hubs. Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha emphasized the policy as a 'historic step' aimed at revolutionizing vocational training and boosting Maharashtra's role as a leader in skill development.
Lodha outlined plans to modernize ITIs with private sector assistance in areas such as curriculum development and technological upgrades, while fostering job creation and economic progress for the state. More than two lakh ITI students are expected to gain globally pertinent training through this innovative partnership.
The initiative encourages corporate and industrial stakeholders to contribute towards advanced training facilities, mirroring global industry trends. The Maharashtra Institute for Transformation (MITRA) will play a strategic role, with plans to establish at least 25 Centers of Excellence initially and expand based on pilot outcomes. Meanwhile, efforts will align with emerging sectors, ensuring practical training adheres to the latest industry standards and boosts employment.
