UP govt to strengthen grant-aided primary schools for marginalised children

The Uttar Pradesh government to further strengthen grant-aided primary schools to enhance access to quality education for children from marginalised communities, an official statement said on Friday.

Under the initiative, primary schools operated through the Social Welfare Department will provide free and quality education to children from economically weaker sections -- especially those belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and families living below the poverty line.

Currently, 448 grant-aided primary schools in the state are recognised by the Basic Education Department and receive funds from the Social Welfare Department. In the grant-aided primary schools, special focus is being given not only to provide free education, but also to introduce modern teaching methods, improve basic infrastructure, and ensure the presence of trained teachers. These schools also offer free textbooks, uniforms, and other learning materials to reduce the financial burden on parents. Notably, the government aims to make these schools not just centres of learning, but also platforms for the overall development of children.

The Social Welfare Department has made the grant process digital and time-bound to prevent misuse of funds and to ensure that all money is spent directly on school development and students' education. Regular inspections and audits have been arranged to maintain this system, the statement said.

Efforts are also being made to improve teacher recruitment and training in these schools to ensure high-quality education. Through these schools, children from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and families living below the poverty line are being brought into mainstream education.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge), Aseem Arun, said that the government's priority is to provide quality education to even the most marginalized sections of society. Through grant-aided primary schools, efforts are being made to provide proper educational resources while ensuring transparency, accountability, and quality.

He added that the goal is to make Uttar Pradesh a model state in the field of education as well.
