A tragic incident unfolded in Dhaka, Bangladesh when an Air Force jet crash-landed into a local school on Monday, resulting in the loss of at least 20 lives. This devastating event marks the deadliest plane crash in recent memory within the capital.
The ill-fated aircraft, identified as an F-7 BGI jet, was a training aircraft that took off from Bangladesh Air Force Base A K Khandaker and experienced technical issues shortly thereafter. It ultimately crashed onto the Milestone School campus, leaving more than 160 individuals injured, many of whom were students.
Following the accident, Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus ordered an in-depth investigation into the cause of the crash, while declaring a day of national mourning. Expressions of sympathy have poured in globally, including a message of solidarity and support from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
