UPSC Launches Direct Email Alerts to Institutions, Expanding Recruitment Outreach for Group A & B Posts
The goal is to ensure maximum awareness among potential candidates, especially in specialized and technical fields where niche expertise is often required.

In a significant step towards making government job opportunities more accessible and transparent, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a dedicated email alert facility for educational and professional institutions. This new outreach measure aims to ensure timely, direct, and domain-specific dissemination of recruitment advertisements for various Group A and Group B Gazetted posts in the Central Government and Union Territories. The initiative is designed to bridge the information gap that often prevents eligible and meritorious candidates from applying to UPSC posts, thereby furthering the Commission’s goal of recruiting the best talent for nation-building.
Addressing Gaps in Recruitment Awareness
The UPSC regularly conducts high-profile competitive examinations for positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other top-tier government services. However, apart from these flagship exams, UPSC is also responsible for filling up specialized positions across Ministries, Departments, and various organizations—ranging from medical, scientific, technical, legal, management, teaching, to forensic and finance roles.
Each year, the Commission processes over 200 recruitment proposals. In 2025 alone, more than 240 recruitment cases have been initiated, encompassing a diverse array of posts, especially at the Gazetted officer level. These positions often come with strict essential and desirable qualification requirements, including education, experience, and specialized skills. Despite the regular advertisement of these posts via Employment News, UPSC’s official website, and LinkedIn, gaps in outreach have led to many vacancies attracting few or no suitable candidates.
New Institutional Email Alert Facility
Recognizing this issue, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman, UPSC, announced a comprehensive plan to streamline and widen the reach of recruitment notifications:
-
Direct Email Alerts: Educational universities, professional institutions, recognized associations, and other relevant bodies will now receive customized email alerts directly from UPSC when posts relevant to their field are advertised.
-
Open Subscription: Any institution, including private organizations, can request to receive these updates by emailing ora-upsc[at]gov[dot]in with the subject "Subscription Request – UPSC Recruitment Alerts".
-
Demand-based Alerts: The facility is not restricted to government or recognized bodies. Interested private or unaffiliated institutions may also opt in by sending a request to oracell-upsc[at]gov[dot]in.
The goal is to ensure maximum awareness among potential candidates, especially in specialized and technical fields where niche expertise is often required. By directly reaching out to academic departments, research institutes, and professional associations, UPSC aims to eliminate the “information barrier” that may have previously left positions vacant or recruitment cycles infructuous.
Enhanced Coordination with Ministries and Technology Upgrades
To maximize outreach, UPSC has taken several additional measures:
-
Collaboration with Ministries & Departments: UPSC has officially requested all recruiting Ministries and Departments to also publicize upcoming vacancies on their own websites and social media handles, amplifying reach across government channels.
-
Social Media & Public Broadcasting: Besides sharing all advertisements on the Commission’s LinkedIn profile, plans are underway to broadcast these notifications through India’s Public Broadcaster, potentially reaching millions of additional viewers, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.
-
RSS Feeds: UPSC is considering the launch of RSS feeds on its website, which would allow instant updates to subscribers and further automate the notification process.
Rationale for the Initiative
Dr. Ajay Kumar noted that, historically, many recruitment drives received a low number of applications—sometimes none at all for highly specialized positions. In some instances, posts remained vacant or recruitment became infructuous when no applicant matched the Recruitment Rules or met the Interview Board’s criteria. By proactively notifying institutions, UPSC hopes to attract a broader and more qualified pool of candidates, making the process more competitive and merit-driven.
“This initiative is to make sure that merit is not left undiscovered simply due to lack of information,” Dr. Kumar emphasized.
Streamlined Recruitment Cycle
As part of broader reforms, UPSC has also introduced a new recruitment planning cycle:
-
All Ministries and Departments are now required to send their recruitment proposals within a specified three-month window (January to March).
-
This enables the Commission to club similar recruitment cases, conduct joint examinations where possible, and complete drives more efficiently within set timelines.
How Institutions Can Subscribe
Any institution—government, semi-government, private, or professional—wishing to receive direct email alerts about UPSC recruitment advertisements can email ora-upsc[at]gov[dot]in with the subject line: "Subscription Request – UPSC Recruitment Alerts".
For additional or specialized requests, institutions may contact oracell-upsc[at]gov[dot]in.
With these new measures, UPSC is reaffirming its commitment to inclusive, transparent, and merit-based recruitment for the Central Government. By leveraging technology and targeted outreach, the Commission is ensuring that no potential applicant is left uninformed about opportunities to serve in the nation’s administrative and technical cadres.
