The Allahabad High Court has given the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) a week's time to submit an affidavit concerning the promotion of an assistant professor, setting September 23 as the subsequent hearing date.
Justice Manju Rani Chauhan issued the directive after the Assistant Professor Dr. Sushil Kumar Dubey filed a contempt application. The BHU Vice Chancellor's legal representative argued that substantial compliance with the earlier court order had been achieved. A newly appointed vice chancellor took office on August 1, and an executive council has been established, which will reconsider the promotion matter.
The Vice Chancellor's counsel requested a week to file the affidavit, prompting the court to set the next hearing for September 23. Previously, on May 12, the court had asked the opposing party to submit a compliance affidavit, highlighting complete adherence to the order given by the writ court on January 7. The court had previously directed that the executive council needs to decide on the promotion issue within three months or face automatic consideration for the petitioner, pending any subsequent council decisions.
