The Supreme Court has highlighted the need for accountability in the wake of the NEET examination paper leak, a situation it described as deeply distressing for both students and their families. The court remarked that such incidents could be emotionally taxing, emphasizing the importance of not letting down young students.
A bench led by Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe urged for potential restructuring of the National Testing Agency, which could involve forming a more robust and independent body to conduct these crucial assessments. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the bench that the government is taking the concerns seriously, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing the resolutions to avoid any future issues.
The government has already implemented new mechanisms for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. While the Central Bureau of Investigation continues to probe the paper leak allegations, the matter is set for further hearing in July. The court had previously established criteria to address such leaks, resisting the cancellation of last year's examination despite similar allegations.
