On the eve of President Droupadi Murmu's 67th birthday, the Dalai Lama extended warm wishes, emphasizing his appreciation for India's hospitality towards Tibetan exiles. In a letter also posted on the Central Tibetan Administration portal, he wished Murmu happiness, good health, and success in leading India.
Recalling his refuge in India since 1959, following the Tibetan uprising, the Dalai Lama expressed a deep connection to India, highlighting its status as the world's most populous democracy. He praised India's ancient wisdom and advocated for its integration with modern education to foster global peace.
The Tibetan spiritual leader thanked India for protecting and preserving Tibetan Buddhist culture based on 'karuna' (compassion) and 'ahimsa' (non-violence). He expressed gratitude for the generous support from the Indian government and its people over the years.
