In a significant development for cultural preservation, Maharashtra's Culture Minister Ashish Shelar has called for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state archives of Maharashtra and Gujarat. This initiative aims to solidify the long-standing historical ties between the two regions, which date back to the times of the renowned ruler, Sayajirao Gaekwad, of the Baroda princely state.
This proposed MoU seeks to ensure the sharing and preservation of valuable historical documents, thereby presenting the documented legacy of Sayajirao Gaekwad to future generations. The minister emphasized the influential role of Sayajirao Gaekwad's mother, Maharani Jamnabai Gaekwad, whose roots extend to Rahimatpur in Maharashtra's Satara district.
Furthermore, Minister Shelar has directed officials to prepare a detailed plan to establish a memorial at Maharani Jamnabai's native place. This initiative is not only a tribute to her legacy but also a testament to the historic ties between the regions and their shared cultural heritage.
