India's streaming service, Jiohotstar, has witnessed an unprecedented rise in its subscriber base, reaching 300 million, closely trailing behind the global streaming giant Netflix, which reported 301.63 million subscribers. The surge, as reported on Wednesday, is largely attributed to the recently concluded Tata IPL which significantly drove viewership numbers.

According to Jiostar, the parent company, the 2025 edition of the BCCI-promoted cricket league witnessed multiple firsts, with digital viewership surpassing traditional TV numbers. This development, coupled with strategic mergers and acquisitions, underscores Jiohotstar's potential for substantial monetisation both through advertising and subscriptions.

Industry insiders credit the enhanced digital format for attracting diverse advertisers, rising from 425 this season, including 270 first-time advertisers. Notably, Jiohotstar's reach extended to 1.19 billion across TV and digital, solidifying its status as a formidable player in the competitive OTT arena.
