The Maharashtra legislative assembly convened on Monday to pay homage to the illustrious astrophysicist and esteemed science writer, Dr. Jayant Narlikar, following his recent passing in Delhi.

During the session, Speaker Rahul Narwekar presented a motion of condolence, leading the assembly in a solemn one-minute silence in honor of Dr. Narlikar's monumental contributions to science.

Dr. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, distinguished globally for the Hoyle–Narlikar theory of gravity, passed away on May 20 at the age of 86. The assembly also honored former legislators Lahanu Kom, Shraddha Tapare, and Rohidas Deshmukh as it began its three-week monsoon session at the Vidhan Bhavan.
