Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has raised concerns over what he describes as a growing trend of labeling individuals as 'Naxals' simply because their work or ideologies are unaccepted. Pawar was responding to remarks made by Shiv Sena's Manisha Kayande, who suggested that 'urban Naxals' were misleading participants of the annual wari pilgrimage to Pandharpur.
Pawar explained that while he lacked complete information on the accused groups, he mentioned the organization Lokayat, which has been reported on by the media. Having observed Lokayat's activities, Pawar attested to its modern approach in challenging orthodoxy and dismissed the idea that it aligns with Naxalite ideologies.
The NCP chief also referenced past incidents like the Elgar Parishad and subsequent caste violence to underscore the misuse of the 'Naxal' label by authorities. He affirmed his party's participation in an upcoming event organized by Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS to address Hindi imposition and the three-language policy in schools.
