Vaishali Nigam Sinha, the co-founder of ReNew, has made history as she becomes the first private sector expert to lead the United Nations Global Compact Network India (UNGCNI) as its President. This significant appointment was announced with the formation of the new governing council set to guide the body from 2025 to 2027.
Sinha's presidency marks a shift in the leadership approach of the UNGCNI, traditionally headed by an ONGC official. The newly elected 12-member council is composed of various stakeholders, including representatives from corporate, non-profit, consultancy, and academic sectors, all committed to advancing sustainable business practices in India.
Under her leadership, the council aims to adopt the global 'Forward Faster' initiative, expanding the network's gender equality efforts. Sinha, with her extensive experience in sustainability and corporate strategy, also plans to emphasize women-led leadership to foster a resilient future, aligning Indian corporate practices with global sustainable development goals.
