The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has begun a detailed investigation into a burglary at the ancestral residence of former swimmer and Padma Shri recipient Bula Chowdhury. As confirmed by a senior official on Saturday, the theft has prompted an urgent probe to recover the stolen items.
The CID team conducted a thorough examination of Chowdhury's home in Hind Motor, situated in the Hooghly district. They meticulously collected CCTV footage and fingerprint samples to gather any potential leads on the culprits. "CCTV camera footage and fingerprints from various objects at the residence were carefully obtained," the officer noted.
Initial investigations indicate that local miscreants familiar with the property, which often remains unoccupied, might be responsible. Several important items, including her Padma Shri brooch and multiple gold medals from the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, were taken. Though some awards, like the Arjuna Award and Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award, were left behind, Chowdhury expressed dismay over her losses. She praised the state government's swift action and urged for a quick resolution to the case.
