In a major announcement, Union Minister Jitendra Singh outlined India's ambitious space exploration plans, signaling the country's astronomical aspirations. During a Lok Sabha session, Singh highlighted astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's future missions and the country's broader space agenda aimed at celebrating 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
Initiated by Prime Minister Modi's reforms in 2014, the Indian space sector has accelerated, inviting private participation in 2020 and expanding its economy to $8 billion, with projections reaching $45 billion in the coming decade. Singh highlighted key future missions, such as the 2026 uncrewed robot mission and the Gaganyaan human spaceflight set for 2027.
Key objectives include the establishment of the Bharat Antariksh Station by 2035 and an iconic moon landing by an Indian astronaut in 2040. Despite enthusiastic discussions, proceedings were adjourned amidst opposition protests.
