In a decisive move, the Kinnaur district administration has canceled the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra-2025 amid relentless downpour and treacherous weather conditions. This decision comes after weather adversities resulted in casualties, prompting immediate action to ensure public safety.
Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur, exercised authority under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, emphasizing that the pilgrimage will remain suspended unless reassessed by further orders. This includes strict compliance measures where pilgrims found undertaking the route will be escorted back to the base, with potential legal actions against violators.
Coordination is underway between the Superintendent of Police Kinnaur, home guards, and DCF Kinnaur to safeguard pilgrims. Furthermore, the administration calls for adherence from all departments, local bodies, and the public, urging the halting of any pilgrimage efforts until new directives are issued.
