As winter approaches, the Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, has underscored the urgency of constructing prefabricated community shelters for those affected by recent natural disasters.
In a meeting with reporters, Thakur proposed leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility funds alongside government support to expedite this initiative. Since the onset of monsoon, the region has suffered 74 flash floods, 38 cloudbursts, and 72 major landslides, causing the loss of 143 lives, while 37 remain missing.
The disaster-struck state has incurred losses amounting to Rs 2,211 crore. Thakur's constituency, Seraj, was hard-hit, leaving about 300 families homeless. While critical infrastructure is temporarily restored, the situation remains dire with road access challenging, compelling residents to transport goods manually. Thakur criticized recent legal actions against protesters and called for a focused relief package, citing misallocation of state funds for political purposes.
