Amidst unrelenting rains, West Bengal celebrated Bijaya Dashami, the conclusion of Durga Puja, with traditional rituals and vibrant gatherings on Thursday. Women donned red-bordered sarees to partake in 'sindoor khela' at key pandals in Kolkata, where notable state figures were present.
Idol immersion ceremonies began in the afternoon across multiple city locations, including the historic Sobhabazar Rajbari. Despite Thursday being considered inauspicious, many households adhered to timelines, while others planned immersions for the following day.
Amidst cultural spectacles, including the burning of a 60-foot Ravan effigy at Salt Lake, festivities saw participation from ministers to commoners. A simultaneous cleanliness drive was initiated by SMPK to address post-immersion debris in the Hooghly, demonstrating the community's commitment to environmental stewardship.
