Millie Bobby Brown Teams Up with Oscar Winner for 'Nineteen Steps' Adaptation

Millie Bobby Brown has enlisted Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper for the Netflix adaptation of her bestselling novel 'Nineteen Steps', as reported by Deadline. The screenplay, currently under development, will be adapted by four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten, known for films like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'The Theory of Everything'.

Brown will produce the film with Jake Bongiovi and Bobby Brown through PCMA, while Jonathan Eirich and Nick Reynolds from Rideback are also attached. The story, co-authored by Brown and Kathleen McGurl, is inspired by the wartime experiences of Brown's grandmother, chronicling the life of Nellie Morris, an 18-year-old in East London's Bethnal Green.

Nellie's tale navigates the trials of WWII, including bombings, rationing, and lost connections, alongside a budding romance with an American airman named Ray. The narrative centers around the tragic Bethnal Green Tube disaster. Director Hooper, acclaimed for films like 'The King's Speech', is no stranger to Oscar recognition. Deadline notes his recent involvement in 'Photograph 51', featuring Natalie Portman, slated to highlight scientist Rosalind Franklin's DNA discoveries.
