The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Julio César Jasso Ramírez from Guerrero, Mexico, targeted the busy archaeological site. After the attack, he turned the weapon on himself, as confirmed by local authorities.
With millions of tourists visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site annually, the shooting has unavoidably cast a shadow on one of Mexico's most cherished landmarks.
