The Goa cabinet has greenlit a new Library Policy on the eve of World Book Day, aimed at modernizing library facilities and fostering a culture of reading among the state's citizens. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant revealed the plan during a press conference following a state Cabinet meeting.
Sawant emphasized the role of e-libraries in this initiative, noting that almost every panchayat-managed library, under the Art and Culture Department's oversight, will integrate digital resources. The policy specifically aims to enhance accessibility to books, particularly those relevant to competitive exams.
In the first phase, 90 libraries are targeted for e-library conversion, with work already underway. Sawant announced that 10-12 libraries have successfully transitioned to digital access, marking the beginning of a broader state-led drive.
