Curtains Down on 'Lawrence of Punjab': ZEE5 Docu-series Blocked Amid Gangster Glorification Concerns

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has intervened to halt the release of 'Lawrence of Punjab' on ZEE5, citing concerns over public safety and the potential glorification of criminal figures. The advisory came after Punjab Police highlighted the risk posed by the series to public order.

The web series, focused on gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was poised for release on April 27 until the Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring sought legal action to prevent it, fearing it might promote gangster culture. The Punjab and Haryana High Court received the matter, where the I&B Ministry's stance was presented.

Despite its insights into student politics and media influence, the series faced criticism for potentially undermining law enforcement efforts. The decision aligns with ongoing court efforts to curb the depiction and dissemination of content that could disrupt societal stability.
