A Surat court in Gujarat has ordered the registration of a criminal case against noted filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap, following his controversial social media remarks against the Brahmin community.
The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class A S Jani has partly allowed a complaint brought forward by lawyer Kamlesh Raval, affiliated with the Vishva Hindu Parishad, alleging that Kashyap's posts were defamatory.
This legal step is based on accusations that Kashyap's social media activity promotes enmity between communities, with prior summons and attempts for compliance unheeded by the filmmaker.
