India's defence ministry has begun the search for a private sector partner to join the ambitious Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project, aiming to significantly advance the country's aerospace capabilities. The project is considered the largest indigenous aerospace initiative in India.

Tata Advanced Systems, Larsen and Toubro, and Bharat Forge have received requests for proposal (RFP) to participate. Notably, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd has not been included in this selection process. This move is part of India's efforts to enhance its air power with the development of the AMCA, which will feature advanced stealth technology.

Larsen and Toubro is partnering with Bharat Electronics Limited, while Bharat Forge is in agreement with BEML. Once these companies submit their proposals, a partner is expected to be chosen within four to five months to collaborate on developing aircraft prototypes.

The AMCA, along with the existing Tejas light combat aircraft, will form the core of the Indian Air Force's future fleet. The Air Force, with its long-term needs in mind, is advocating for the AMCA project, having gained confidence from the successful development of the Tejas aircraft by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
